I wrote this song when I was younger. It was much faster in tempo and didn't vibe the way I would've liked. One day when I still watched T.V. a commercial came on with Dr. Dre. The music was going really fast like an overly hyped up rave. The Dr. comes in and says slow it down. The music slows to a quarter of the tempo and it becomes a real dance party. He looked at the camera and said everything is better slow. For some reason that stuck with me and as I was playing this song in the usual fast tempo I was inclined to slow it down. Suddenly it became this beautiful song in E Major. It includes a rather strange turn around for the chorus, then moves into a D Major for the bridge. Once I dialed the song in I always felt it would be an acoustic song and that it would be played on the radio around Christmas time, I'm not sure why. Years went by and though the song changed to an acoustic/electric song it was played on the radio for the first time right before Christmas. Life is strange...
The song begins on the album with birds singing. The birds were recorded behind my house along the Muskegon River at 5am. Mario and I had just returned to my house after playing at Electric Forest all evening. When we came back to my house It was an incredibly clear morning and the birds were really happy. I decided to grab my recorder and capture some of the sounds. I'm glad I did because it fit well into the song and they were singing in E Major.
I had a hard time getting the sound I was looking for in the studio. As I was trying different things I came up with a new tuning that allowed me to play the song in an open chord fashion, but with bit of a twist. That tuning was:

This song is featured after Like A Gypsy and signals the calm after the storm. Realizing nothing is to be taken for granted the subject in the story of the album begins to realize that you get what you give so to speak and begins to make a change for the better.
