This song started out as just the opening riff. It bounced around for a while, but I wasn't sure quite what to do with it. Eventually I went through an experience in life that made me really slow down and think. Through that I finally decided to take the song in a reggae direction.
I wrote this around the time that I started playing with Skeetown Stylee. I even showed the song to Brett A Kerr and asked if he would like to work it into the Skeetown song list. We never did, but I kept thinking about it.

Finally I birthed Cosmic Knot and was able to give it a go. I had already made up the middle horn line, but I needed a beginning.

As I was at Third Coast recording the song the opening horn line came to me and stuck. It features Brad Fritcher on trumpet in the intro and throughout.

The dance beat shift at the end was put there because we used to play with Mike Schertenlieb and he had a little bit of a hard time with that style of beat at that time, so I put it in there just to push the boundaries a little bit and get everybody dancing.

The song is about not climbing too high with your ego cause you're bound to fall.
